Our brother in faith, Robert D. Rissmiller, of Tilden Township, a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ of Hamburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in the care of the Laurel Center of Hamburg, a day after celebrating his 89th birthday.
Robert, who was known as “Bob” and “Riss,” was the widower of Bernice B. "Bonnie" (Bowers) Rissmiller, who passed away on December 29, 2022.
Born in Windsor Township on the family farm, Bob was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Wink) Rissmiller. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1956 and was part of the Hamburg Hawks Basketball team. Later in life, he continued to play with the Old Timers Basketball Association of Hamburg.
He served his country honorably in the Navy Reserve.
Riss's first major job was with Schlenker Motors. He later worked for his uncle Clarence F. Wink for 17 years before he went into business for himself with Robert D. Rissmiller Drilling, which he operated from 1976 until 2003. He worked for Blue Stone Inc for approximately 10 years before accepting a role at Cracker Barrel. His last position was with Hamburg High School as a custodian, where he worked for several years before eventually retiring in 2022.
He was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ in Hamburg and served on the Consistory for 19 years. His church recognized him as an Elder Emeritus. He also volunteered for over 24 years with Boy Scout Troop #120, which met at First UCC of Hamburg. He also served on the Boy Scout Council and was accepted to the Order of the Arrow, B.S.A. He was a member of Friends of Scouting.
His memory will be treasured by his children: Ty Rissmiller, husband of Cynthia of Fleetwood; Dean Rissmiller of Hamburg; Darrin Rissmiller, widower of Lananh, of Whitehall; and Jill Collins, wife of William, of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren: Demi McMullen and husband, Dan; Jacob Rissmiller and wife, Chelsea; Seth Rissmiller and wife, Ashley; Erin Collins; Bridget Collins; Charli Rissmiller; and Nora Collins; great grandchildren, Wyatt Rissmiller, Aurora Rissmiller, and Stevie McMullen; his brother, Clarence Rissmiller, widower of Carol; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Bowers and wife, Louise.
He is also survived by his companions, a cat, Holly, and a dog, Lily. He was an animal lover his entire life and was met by several beloved companions waiting for him at the end of the Rainbow Bridge.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bonnie, and his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Rissmiller, Marie Brobst, and Nancy Hulet.
Contributions in his memory may be offered to his church, First Reformed United Church of Christ of Hamburg, 76 South Third Street, Hamburg, PA 19526.
