Today we held a collection for One Great Hour of Sharing. Per the UCC website, “One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) is a Special Mission Offering of the United Church of Christ that supports partners worldwide with ministries that fund health, education, and agricultural development, emergency relief, refugee ministries, and both international and domestic disaster response.”
During the Sunday School hour, the children got to put their donations in a special bank that was designed and built by members of the congregation. How did the bank work? The weight of the money pushed the pin up to pop the balloon and flip the plate of whipped cream into the face in the hole. A good time was had by all and we raised money for a really great cause!
It was a busy Palm Sunday at First UCC! We had the traditional blessing of the palms, a baptism, and the children’s choir sang.

On the fifth Sunday of Lent, our New Testament lesson was John 11: 1-45, the story of Lazarus. Pastor Ben taught about this scripture, with a focus on John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” Tears are a sign of great love. Great love brings great grief. Every life is precious in God’s sight.

On this Laetare Sunday (the fourth Sunday in Lent), Pastor Ben taught that we should show God’s love, grace, inclusion, and hope when faced with challenges, differences, and imperfections. He also answered the children’s question regarding why he pours the wine from so high during communion.
If you’d like to learn the answer to that question, you can watch today’s service here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bVCAylvIWvE&list=PLIVKYDPwTIA12GzxpJ0Nzise0jwoaq0j5&index=5&pp=iAQB

On this third Sunday in Lent, we were joined by guest preacher Mrs. Kathy Jachowski, who spoke about John 4: 5-42 and biases. At the well, Jesus teaches us how to see as grace sees. May we learn to see as Christ sees.
