Time and Location
The Reading-Berks CROP Walk will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the Gring’s Mill Recreation Area; 2083 Tulpehocken Road; Reading, PA 19610 near Penn State Berks Campus. Registration begins at 12:30pm. The walk steps off at 1:00.
Fighting Hunger
CROP Hunger Walks are community-based walk fundraising events held in cities and towns across the United States, created to support the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster. After a CROP Hunger Walk ends, 25% of the funds raised is returned to the host community to support local hunger fighting efforts.

Our First UCC Team goal is to raise $200 to fight hunger.

First UCC’s Events & Outreach Committee is organizing this event, and our Youth Group is also participating as a group in this event.

Even if you are not walking, you can still support our First UCC Team and help us to fight local and world wide hunger. To do so, make a donation payable to “First UCC of Hamburg” note “CROP Walk” and place your gift in the offering plate or mail it to the church office.

Carpool to Gring’s Mill
For those who would like to carpool to Gring’s Mill. We will leave the church parking at 12noon.
If you are in need/want of riding with someone to Gring’s Mill, please let Lari Leiby know, so that we know to look for you before leaving the parking lot.
If you are able to drive others, thank you, and please let us know how many people you can fit in your vehicle.
Background of CROP Walk
The Crop Project began in 1947 when farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops to our hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia. The first CROP Hunger Walks took place in Bismarck, North Dakota (1969), and York, Pennsylvania (1970). Since then, CROP Hunger Walk events have been held in hundreds of communities, large and small, raising millions of dollars to eradicate hunger and poverty.
