Season of Easter

Easter is the 49 days (including 7 Sundays) from Easter Sunday to the Sunday before Pentecost Sunday. During this season, many of the scripture passages we read are about Jesus’ appearances to the disciples and to others from the time of his Resurrection (Easter Sunday) to the day of his Ascension (on Thursday 40 days later).

On Ascension Day (which takes place on Thursday between the 6th & 7th Sundays of Easter) or on the Sunday following (the 7th Sunday of Easter) we extinguish the Paschal Candle following the reading of the Ascension of Christ. The 7th Sunday of Easter is the last Sunday of the Easter Season, after this Sunday, the Paschal Candle is moved from the altar to the baptismal font.
